Le biancane di Leonina

We begin the itinerary by continuing on the dirt road that leads to the Castle of Leonina, following the hiking signs “Itinerary 3 Crete Senesi Life Park” in the direction of Biancane. After 200 m, turn left. From this point we begin to have an overview of the Unesco Geosite “Le Biancane di Leonina”, which appear as clay domes with the part exposed to the sun completely white and devoid of vegetation. Continue along the flat road and then turn right onto an uphill path, which takes us along the ridge above the geosite. From here you can walk immersed in the Biancane, being able to observe some of them closely and enjoying an exclusive view of the city of Siena. After passing the Geosite we continue slightly uphill on the ridge until we take the dirt road of the Castle of Leonina. At the crossroads, take a small detour to the left to go up to the highest point where we find the work of J. P. Filippe “Le Site Transitoire” where you have a wide 360 ’view of Siena, the surrounding mountains and hills. We retrace our steps by taking the Leonina road which leads us first to the castle of the same name and then to the starting point, still giving us views of the Biancane.
