Exploring the Labyrinth of the Etruscan king Porsenna and cycling the Path of Reclamation

Prepare to live a day in pure adventure between culture and nature crossing the Labyrinth of Porsenna – a famous Etruscan king from Chiusi, then continuing the experience by bicycle on Sentiero della Bonifica [Path of Reclamation].
A guide will accompany you on a tour through the mysterious underground of the Etruscan city, along the galleries cut into the sandstone, until you reach the ancient Etruscan-Roman tank.
Riding a bicycle, a guide will take you from the historic center of Chiusi to Lake Chiusi, along a scenic downsloping road. From Lake Chiusi, you will reach the Lake of Montepulciano, passing through the Sentiero della Bonifica [Path of Reclamation], a flat road immersed in the countryside. An expert guide will accompany you through the gravel roads and the vineyards of Prugnolo Gentile, until you arrive at the wine cellars for Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG. Here you will visit a wine agency for a tasting of wines paired with local dishes, from Tuscan salami, bruschetta topped with extra virgin olive oil, and Pecorino cheese from Pienza. Once you have recovered the energy to continue, the tour will return to the walls of the city center of Montepulciano.

At the top of Cetona Mount, you will find a huge metallic cross dominating the landscapes of Valdichiana and Val d’Orcia; looking closely from this point, you will be able to see both Umbria and Lazio. Staring at this extraordinary overview, you will stop for a packed lunch, before getting down using another slope of the mountain.

The Sentiero del Vino Nobile [Nobile Path] is named after the Vino Nobile, which has its own exclusive production area on the territory of Montepulciano. It mainly runs downhill, so it is a path suitable for everyone, along the sides of the hills that are home to vineyards, olive groves, and cultivated fields. An experienced guide will accompany you from the departure (Piazza Sant’Agnese in Montepulciano) to the arrival (Lake Montepulciano). The route get firstly to the Temple of San Biagio, passes in front of the small country church of the Madonna della Querce, crosses the woods and the dirt tracks, along which the ruins of the old farmhouses rise, and then reach the Lake Montepulciano. Here, at the Nature Reserve, you will rest and replenish yourselves, enjoying a delicious Tuscan picnic. Return to the historic center by taxi.
